Assessment of Ventral Microelectrode Stimulator and Photopolymerizable Hydrogel for Spinal Cord Injury Treatment
These illustrations were created as part of my master's thesis for research being carried out by Paul Juralowicz, a biomedical engineering PhD student in Dr. Karen Cheung's laboratory. This research is part of Mend the Gap - an international team of scientists investigating spinal cord repair after injury. These illustrations were created to explain two concepts:
1. Using a light source to set an injectable material (the hydrogel) which is delivered to the spinal cord to facilitate recovery after injury.
2. The placement of a flexible microelectrode that wraps around the spinal cord to deliver nearly 360 degrees of electrical stimulation to promote the regeneration of spared neurons and the recovery of functional gait.
